Sog.
It rained for about 36 hours straight here and has finally let up a bit today. Both roads out of where I am right now are out. A bus was wiped out by a mudslide killing at least 12. And here is a story in Spanish but with a picture. The rainy season is hard here and somehow it keeps getting harder. I'm at Lake Atitlan with my 2 co-workers having our semester orientation. We meet our students on Monday who are flying into Guate City from Miami that evening. Tomorrow we'll head toward the capital, maybe taking the coastal route because of the mudslide on the Inter-American highway. The news says 19 people have died because of the rain in the last 24 hours of rain. It rained a lot, but not like a lot-a lot, which goes to show how weak roads and hillsides and houses are around here. We are planning on taking our students to a community on Tuesday near Colomba, in the "boca costa" region, but it has been reported there was another landslide where a man and his 2 daughters died.
