There are two sources of printed news here: the color photo murders and drama paper or the paper with no pictures and lots of business, politics and really, more than anything, advertisements. The color photo paper, the "Diario," is largely circulated & read in the rural areas while the "Prensa" seems to catch the more literate city folks.

Aaaanyway, point is, unfortunately Concepcion, my Peace Corps town and Andres' native grounds, made the cover, the COVER, of the Diario today. A bus leaving Concepcion for Todos Santos, another town 2 hours down the road, went over the mountain side leaving at least 12 people dead including a girl Andres went to school with and another girl his brother went to school with. Not only is it just so terrible and sad that this happened, no doubt due to the total disregard for human life by the stupid bus driver (this bus route has been notorious for bad driving, including a former driver running over and killing his ayudante while the guy was changing the bus tire), but also that this route has been traveled by me and so many people I know and love. The picture from the Diario is awful - the bus is completely demolished. Any survivors will be a miracle. There are many people in the hospital right now. Luckily I don't think the bus was very full. If it were a regular bus to Huehue then we would be talking about nearly 50 people or more. Thinking of those poor folks & their families...
